H-House office welcomes Stephanie Miller as new advisor

As the 2020-2021 school year begins, Samo is introducing a new advisor to H-House. Stephanie Miller is a graduate of Cal State Long Beach and has a bachelor's degree in Psychology, a masters in Educational Psychology and a degree in school counseling. After 20 years of working at Olympic High School, she is now making the switch to Samo.
Ever since Miller was young she loved talking with other people, a skill that would serve as an asset in her future career in education. She imagined herself as an interior designer or hairstylist, both careers that would heavily involve talking to others, and would eventually lead to her finding her current career.
“I liked talking to people and I was the go-to person when my friends had problems. So naturally I found my future career,” Miller said.
Outside of school, Miller likes to spend time in nature with her family. Miller loves exploring neighborhoods and cities, visiting farmers’ markets and traveling. During quarantine, she has also taken up cooking, a valuable new skill for her and her family who have recently decided to go vegan.
This year she is looking forward to getting to know all her students despite the challenges distance learning has created. Remaining focused for long periods of time and learning how to operate new technology is a challenge both students and teachers are having to overcome. While distance learning is difficult for students, staff and families, some aspects have been made easier by the technology we have.
“I have found it is easier to hold parent meetings. Parents are able to call in for meetings from their home or office,” Miller said.
Despite the difficulties that lie ahead, Miller is prepared to take them on and work on coming out of this distance learning experience stronger.
