After playing lacrosse for nine years, Evan Miner's (’21) dream of playing at a collegiate level finally came true after he committed to play Division I lacrosse at Quinnipiac University.

Ever since Miner started playing in elementary school, when his dad introduced him to the sport, he has been working towards this massive milestone. After years of working for hours every week and dedicating his whole life to lacrosse, Miner explains how he feels to be committed.

“It feels good to be committed, a lot of weight off of my shoulders. All of my hard work paid off,” Miner said.

Miner has been a prolific goalie for the Samo boys’ lacrosse team, playing at the varsity level every year of high school and cumulating 234 overall saves. A team captain for three of those years, Miner was named the Ocean League Defensive Player of the Year his freshman and sophomore year and was the team MVP his junior year.

Kasra Sariri (’21), who is also a member of Samo’s boys’ varsity lacrosse team, has been consistently impressed by Miner’s work ethic as an athlete.

“Every time we were on the field, Evan would give it his all and was a great leader regardless if we were winning or losing,” Sariri said.

Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the recruitment process looked a little different than other years. Miner was lucky enough to be given a virtual tour of the school via Zoom.

“The recruitment process was somewhat easy. I had the help of my club coaches who put in good words to the coaches at Quinnipiac... It was a fun and smooth process,” Miner said.

Finally, Miner's dream of playing at the collegiate level is coming true, and he is extremely excited to begin working with the athlete department at Quinnipiac.

“I am most excited about playing Division I lacrosse and meeting and making connections with my teammates,” Miner said.

Despite the current obstacles that come with COVID-19, Miner is thrilled to be able to take his lacrosse career to the next level.
