How do sports relieve students’ stress?

Malia Kabwe, Staff Writer

Whether students are dealing with SAT prep, preparing for finals or keeping with up classwork, being a teen can come with many stressors. For Samo students, sports can be a healthy outlet to relieve their stress. Athletics are a huge part of people’s livelihoods. Sports can boost a kid’s confidence, and provide a community for them to feel comfortable in. Here are some student comments on how their sport relieves their stress.

Oliver Keeves (’24)

“I can forget about my homework and just play my sport and take the work off of my mind.”

“Though school is the number one priority, basketball is the main thing I care about at the moment...Once you are done with school, hobbies and interests can really help you with stress. Basketball is that hobby for me.”

“After a long day, if you had a hard test or something you can forget about everything for an hour and kind of use sports as a distraction.”

Story Waxman (’22)
