After a tough year of isolation, Samo’s athletes are all eager to return to the vigorous, yet rewarding cycle of practices, scrimmages and games, and members of the girls’ tennis team are no exception. Excited to be reunited, the players have high hopes for the coming season. Led by Coach Shaun Simone, the varsity team has 11 games scheduled for the Fall 2021 season, two of which are home games.
Despite being a tad rusty, the tennis players are working hard and are excited for the coming season.
“We have all been trying to adjust with having practice after our classes and still keeping our grades up, but our spirits are high and we’ve been enjoying ourselves,” Clarice Shimahara (‘24) said.
Standout players this season include Avelaine Thompson (’25), as well as Meleja Horelick (’25). Both freshmen are newcomers to the team, and are exceeding expectations with their drive and skill.
With players such as Thompson and Horelick, as well as other fantastic returners, the varsity girls’ tennis team is optimistic for the coming season. Despite overcoming the massive road black that was 2020, the players were ready to return to the court for a long-awaited fall season.
