Samo ASB Elections
Each ASB role has a special part in contributing to make Samo a better place. The ASB class governs the people at Samo. They manage the student body funds and concerns, organize activities, give the student body a voice, overlook any issues on the school budget and more. All ASB members must keep at least a 2.5 cumulative GPA, even upon an election to an ASB role.
There are many ways ASB students spread the word to vote for them in the upcoming election. Some of the most popular ways that have been used at Samo this year was spreading word on social media. Candidates will post online to convince people to vote for them. Another popular way ASB candidates gain popularity is with interviews. A form to vote for the candidates is also attached to the video. These videos give the student body some ideas of what the candidates are like, as well as why they are running and their goals for the year.
Next year's ASB representatives include President Mary Wondwossen, Vice President Josie Schwartz, Secretary Griffin Seals, Treasurer Bella Tarin and Student Member of the Board Mira Wagabaza.
“I plan to allocate funding towards conflicts on campus like the air conditioning, heaters and the bathrooms so that they’ll be functional year round," Tarin said. "I’m excited to be on the executive board and help make decisions that will hopefully benefit the student body. A fun fact about me is that I play lacrosse."
Each ASB executive board candidate needs majority approval by the executive cabinet before they can get elected by the student body. Wondwossen, the new ASB president, shares her thoughts and goals for the upcoming school year,
“Next year, I would like to try and plan better spirit days that students will be willing to participate in," Wondwossen said. "I will also try to plan more events during lunch to bring the school together. As president, I'm excited that I’ll be able to collaborate with new people and work with them to help improve the school. One fun fact about me is that I am Ethiopian and I am the first generation in my family to be born in America."
Griffen Seals the upcoming ASB secretary for next year shares his plans.
“My plans for the upcoming year are that I hope I can be ablet o be a messenger to convey concerns or expressions the students as well as the ASB class have throughout the year. In addition, I hope to also just be there if anyone needs an ASB member to bring up things that they kike about thr school, need improvment, on or just need complete reworking. A fun fact about me is that my my great, great grandparents created/founded the first black school in North Carolina”
