Weekend Activities: Live This No. 9
Micol AzcarateStaff WriterSlowly but surely, the oh so intimidating final week is actually approaching. Believe it or not, we only have three weekends left before the end of the semester and supposedly (at least according to the Mayans) the end of the world. So, in order to mentally and physically prepare yourself for the next stressful weeks before the apocalypse, take it easy this weekend. Be wise and start studying that way when you treat yourself with fun activities to do with your friends you’ll feel proud of yourself. On Friday, take a break after a long week at school and take your buddies to Santa Monica’s ice-skating rink on 1324 5th Street. Enjoy a night of outdoors ice-skating, or better, falling on your butt and laughing at your friends. Afterward, once you feel sufficiently cold, pretend for a second you live in a real Winter Wonderland and go to Café Crepe on 1460 3rd Street Promenade to enjoy a deliciously sweet hot drink. On Saturday, stimulate your intellect and go to LACMA museum at 7:30 p.m. on 5905 Wilshire Blvd to watch the epic journey that forever changed movie history: “2001: A Space Odyssey” directed by Stanley Kubrick. If you haven’t already seen this movie, be prepared for a mindboggling experience full of surreal images, futuristic décor, and disturbing scenes. While you’re already in the area, don’t forget to check out all the other art. Finally on Sunday, take advantage of the free screening at the Aero Theater on 1328 Montana Avenue of “Castaway” starring Tom Hanks (and pretty much Tom Hanks only) as the man who gets stuck on an island with a volleyball as his only partner.Whatever it is you do this weekend, take time to review and sleep, but also don't forget to enjoy yourself.mazcarate@thesamohi.comFor more info on these events, click the links below:http://www.downtownsm.com/ice-santa-monicahttp://www.cafecrepe.com/http://www.lacma.org/event/2001-space-odysseyhttp://www.americancinemathequecalendar.com/content/castaway-0
