From acoustic tunes to iTunes: Jason Pitts is "Just Playing"

Molly ChaikinStaff Writer Samo senior Jason Pitts released an album on iTunes, and was made available for purchase on Jan. 16.“Music is a vehicle for sharing the joy in my life. When I write music expressing happiness, it doubles my own happiness, since another form of expression is added. Music is the language in which I can express myself fullest, and my guitar plays with the passion from my soul and keeps me sane,” Pitts said.Jason Pitts’ album is titled “Just Playing,” which abbreviates to JP — Pitts' initials.“It made for great album art, designed by [senior] Nick Salazar. Another meaning to it is that I'm "Just Playing" my music, and I'm still a kid," Pitts said.The album features five of his "best" songs — “The Day of My Defeat,” “Wonderland,” “I’m Not Here Anymore,” “The Child is Who I Am” and “Darfur.”Pitts' favorite song on the album is “The Day of My Defeat,” because of the intro that doubles as an instrumental prologue, the intricate guitar part and the metaphoric lyrics that relate to certain events in his life.“I believe the best compliments I have received are when people remember a title or a certain lyric from a song of mine. That gives me a warm and accomplished feeling inside because it means there was some sort of impact I had on them by pursuing my passion for music,” Pitts said.“Just Playing” is now available on iTunes for $4.95.mchaikin@thesamohi.com
