ASB members at large to be given commissioner positions

With the election of new executives and a shift in leadership, Samo's Associated Student Body (ASB) will take on a new branch of leadership in the 2014-15 school year. Beginning in 2014 ASB Members at Large will be given commission positions, in which members will be given control of individual parts of Samo."We noticed that in ASB, people that were Members at Large didn't feel like they had a role and it was really hard for them to know what to do when we weren't planning an event," ASB advisor Bryn Boyd said, "[The addition of these positions is] in order to help kids in ASB find a nitch that they are passionate about."For example, the Commissioner of Athletics would be in charge of coordinating rallies in the Science Quad before important games, and the Commissioner of Academics would be in charge of planning study halls."Some of [the positions] will be specific, like Commissioner of Pep Rallies or Commissioner of Blood Drives. Then some are a little more open ended, like Commisioner of Spirit." Boyd said.According to Brian Matusovsky ('15), next year's ASB President, the new commissioner positions will help to unite ASB and Samo as a whole, and ensure that all aspects of Samo are represented and celebrated."I believe that the new commissioner positions will help ensure that everyone in ASB has a real leadership role on our a campus, and can be held responsible for at least one type of event. This will make everyone in ASB more active, and will help ensure hat they are all playing active roles in our school." Matusovsky said.
