Choir director Jeffe Huls nominated to win Bravo Award
Julia GerhardtStaff WriterSamo choir director Jeffe Huls is one of 85 finalists in the Bravo Awards competition which honors “creativeness and brilliance” in teachers.Bravo awards honor teachers’ abilities to promote self-esteem in their pupils and create an entertaining space for students to achieve their goals, according to a Bravo press release.Huls was nominated for this award by choir parent, Bambi Martins.“I saw information about the Bravo Award, and as I read the requirements for submitting a teacher I immediately thought of Mr. Huls,” Martins said. “My daughter has been in his class for two years now and it’s not everyday you see a teacher with so much passion and integrity. When I think about the education my child is receiving from Mr. Huls, I’m truly amazed that high school kids are getting such a sophisticated, renaissance-like exposure to music,” Martins said.Huls’s students have their own reasons about why he makes such a great nominee for the award.“He’s patient, he knows what needs to be done, and he gets it done. Everything is always somewhat organized which is a lot to say for a teacher of any caliber,” junior Matilda Mead said. However, Mead is not the only student proud to know that her choir teacher has been nominated for a Bravo Award.“I’m very glad to hear that he’s been nominated for this award, but knowing him and the choir program I’m not surprised,” sophomore Matthew Ware said.Huls is honored by the nomination, but he also puts plenty of time and effort into his job.“If you want to be a music teacher, it’s hard work, but it’s incredibly rewarding,” Huls said.jgerhardt@thesamohi.com
