Drama club spreads the love with sonnet grams

Sam ReamerStaff WriterThis Valentine’s Day, the Drama Club offered a unique way to tell your special someone that you love them. In the spirit of 16th century romance, members of Drama Club recited sonnets in third and fourth period classes.According to sophomore and Drama Club member Sophie Thomason, this is the first year they have sold sonnet grams. Thomason also said that the grams were not limited to romantic gestures.“We recited Shakespearian and non-Shakespearian sonnets. Some of the sonnets were romantic and some were comedic,” Thomason said.Thomason also said that the drama club had originally planned for the sonnet grams to be sold sometime before winter break.“We wanted a way to fundraise for the drama department, and we thought that selling grams would be a very good idea,” Thomason said. “We wanted to do something like this for Christmas but we couldn’t pull it together in time. Luckily we were able to pull it off for Valentine’s Day.”Junior and Drama Club member Matilda Mead had not expected to receive a sonnet gram because she was also reciting them. Mead also thought that the grams were appropriate for the friendly spirit of Valentines Day."It was interesting and really funny to get a sonnet gram. The person who gave it to me tried to keep it anonymous but we were talking about it on Facebook," Mead said. “I think sonnet-grams are so much better then candy-grams because when you’re reading someone a sonnet-gram, their face turns bright red and they get really embarrassed.”sreamer@thesamohi.com
