Eva Mayoral appointed as new Samo principal

Anika NarayananStaff Writer Current John Adams Middle School (JAMS) principal, Eva Mayoral was recently appointed as the new principal for Samo. She will take her post at the commencement of the 2013-2014 school year. Her new appointment is the result of a recent redistribution of Samo staff, which will see a new set of house principals as well as a new head principal, Mayoral. Mayoral, who was recently named Administrator of the Year by the California Music Educators Association for her work with the music department at JAMS, served as the I-House principal at Samo for a number of years before taking the head position at JAMS. She will be returning to campus, replacing Laurel Fretz, who has served as Samo's principal for the past two school years."[Mayoral] is amazing," I-House teacher Marae Cruce said. "She's very supportive and willing to go the extra mile to assist you. She creates a very caring environment  — she actually asks your opinion and works to problem solve."Mayoral’s focus on every domain of student life, from music to academics, has fostered her success as an administrator. According to Mayoral, she feels that the more places people awaken passion in the classroom, the more profound their internal and external successes are."I have a great amount of respect and trust for Ms. Mayoral," I-House teacher Gilda de la Cruz said. "She does what she thinks is best for everyone on campus. That's what makes her a great administrator."anarayanan@thesamohi.com
