Samo students "Rush" to join clubs
Samo clubs came together in the Science Quad on Thursday for Samo's first ever "Club Rush," hosted by ASB. Many student-run clubs and organizations set up booths during lunch, recruiting students and introducing them to both old and new clubs on campus.According to freshman Jonathan Valencia, the event was successful and allowed him to learn about the new clubs Samo has to offer.“It’s really good that people are getting into it and that the clubs are showing what they do, so they can inspire people to join,” Valencia said. Many members of participating clubs were also pleased with the event. Sophomore and member of the club Pixel Palz, Ryan Rosenblum said Club Rush helped to increase the club's membership.“It’s a really good opportunity for us to get members and it’s a good way to expand the club's horizons for people who wouldn’t otherwise know about us,” Rosenblum said. However, some members did not see the same increase in membership after Club Rush. According to sophomore Ben Brown, participants were more interested in the complementary doughnuts they got after signing up for the Business and Investors Club, than in actually becoming members of his club.“It was not organized and people were not signing up because they wanted to actually join,” Brown said.Sophomore and member of the Jacaranda Club, Liam McBride agrees that Club Rush was not as effective as it could have been.“It was disorganized and we had no idea where to go and when to come," McBride said. However, Senior Class President Spencer Goodman said that Samo's need for an event like Club Rush was long overdue.“I’m glad we're doing it," Goodman said. "It’s something we should have been doing a long time ago."Sam ReamerStaff Writersreamer@thesamohi.com
