Samo students try to get Obama 'To The Greek'
Samo students Nikki Bell ('13) and Samantha Modabber ('13) created a YouTube video on Sunday, June 2 asking President Barack Obama to attend the upcoming graduation ceremony. In just one day, the video had gotten thousands of views and had been picked up by local news and radio stations. Both Bell and Modabber said that they never expected the video to be picked up as much as it has been and to have gained popularity so quickly. The two were originally only expecting a few friends to share the video online, but now it has gotten mass media attention."This is far past what we ever even thought would happen," Bell said. "I'm pretty sure I can safely say both Sam and I are amazed that it got this kind of attention."In the video, Bell and Modabber as well as other Samo students share why it is important for them to get Obama to speak at graduation. They list reasons, from Samo's recent athletic accomplishments in basketball, tennis and track to Samo's strong sense of alliance in regards to the Wall of Humanity formed against the Westboro Baptist Church."We figured it was the perfect opportunity to take advantage of a once in a lifetime chance," Bell and Modabber said. "But even if he doesn't come, [we] will still be beyond happy with the press the campaign has gotten and the support we have been given from the Samo community."Bell and Modabber were featured on 97.1 AMP Radio with Carson Daly on June 4 at 6:40 a.m.cgoldberg@thesamohi.com
