Samo welcomes new Activities Director Bryn Boyd

Samo Government and Economics teacher Bryn Boyd has been named the new Activities Director and Associated Student Body (ASB) adviser for the 2012-13 school year.

According to Principal Laurel Fretz, Boyd is a great fit for both roles.“I have huge expectations for Boyd,” Fretz said. “I have asked her to work to build even more school spirit across the student body, faculty and staff. I expect her to be organized and supportive of students and to maintain a high level of communication with everyone.”Boyd attended Palos Verdes Peninsula High School and Loyola Marymount University. She recently received her Master’s Degree in Administration. Boyd said that working with children and young adults was always a career objective for her.“The most appealing part of my job is being able to work with students to increase school spirit and activities on campus,” Boyd said. “Working with children is my passion.”According to Fretz, Boyd is patient, careful and optimistic, making her an ideal Activities Director and ASB adviser.“I admire her ability to stay calm in a crisis, to ask questions when she is learning something and her ‘can do’ attitude,” Fretz said. “She always tells me, ‘Okay, we will get it done.’ I love that.”I-House Principal Renée Semik said she admires Boyd for her inventiveness as well as her dedication to her work.“I like the energy and enthusiasm she brings to the position,” Semik said. “She has a lot of new ideas and really works hard to honor what students want to do.”According to senior ASB president Trevis Jackson, Boyd is a punctual and determined ASB adviser.“She takes the initiative to get things done and prefers to finish early than right on time,” Jackson said. “She’s also not afraid to get on someone’s case when things aren’t getting done.”Boyd was previously the senior class adviser.“Her name wasn’t a new one to ASB,” ASB Speaker of the House and senior Matilda Mead said. “Boyd had been working with the senior class and Senior Steering, and I’d heard a lot of fantastic things about her.”According to Boyd, the goal this year is to expand the role of the student body in all school-related matters – or “Vikings Unite” –which she plans to achieve through collaboration with faculty, staff and administration; campus-wide events and involvement in multiple committees within ASB.“Boyd is a perfect person for Activities Director,” Fretz said. “She has the most important desired characteristic: school spirit.”twang@thesamohi.com
