Sophomore Steering to create cookbook
In order to raise money for the class of 2016, Sophomore Steering is creating a collaborative holiday themed cookbook that will give Samo families recipes to try this holiday season.Dean Chien ('16) came up with the idea of the cookbook after being inspired by cooking and holiday spirits.“There will be a wide range of recipes [in the cookbook], all of which have something to do with the holiday season, like turkey variations or Christmas-themed desserts,” Chien said. “[Sophomore Steering] is looking to have out-of-the-box recipes to give families an opportunity to cook something they’ve never tried before.According to Yahn Bruggeman (’16), sophomores will be able to submit recipes to be put in the cookbook. The cookbook will then be sold to the entire school to raise money for the Class of 2016’s senior year and prom.Maggie Hochstein (’16), who cooks at home, is interested to learn about the different kinds of foods sophomores eat.“Cooking has always been something I have done with my family,” Hochstein said. “Cookbooks are a great way to share family traditions with other people, since food is an integral part of many cultures. I want to know what other sophomores think are good recipes.”Hochstein and Ceci Brine (’16) plan on sharing recipes for the cookbook.“I’d probably share some parsley potatoes or goulash,” Brine said.H-House Principal Leslie Wells believes that the sophomore cookbook will help sophomores unite and remember the Class of 2016 in the future.“[The cookbook] gives an opportunity for [every sophomore] to contribute to it and share something in common,” Wells said. “This isn’t something that you’re going to buy and use once and never use it again. It’s a kind of thing that you can keep for a long time, and it’s a different kind of reminder on how your high school experience was. This is something that neither a class or a house has done, so it’s unique.”According the Chien, Sophomore Steering also hopes to bond the Samo community and bring families together though cooking.“The cookbook is meant to be a source of pride for the sophomore class,” Chien said. “We could come together as a community and produce something for the benefit of others. I believe that we as a class can make it happen.”
