Warner Brothers offers paid art internship to Los Angeles county students

Tianru WangStaff WriterWarner Brothers Entertainment is now receiving applications for the 2012-13 Reach Honorship Program, which offers four summers of paid internships at the company to each of three graduating Los Angeles County seniors who express interest in the entertainment industry. The program gives students the chance to interact with an executive mentor, as well as $10,000 dollar scholarship.Art teacher Amy Bouse has urged Samo art students to apply not only for the monetary reward, but also for the artistic prestige and knowledge.“It would be an invaluable experience,” Bouse said. “They would be able to work with people who do that for a job; they would have all kinds of access that they wouldn’t have otherwise, and a lot of the art world has connections, so knowing people and having them know your work is very powerful.”Samo alumna and artist Caer Ferguson, who first publicized the scholarship among Samo students, shares similar views on its merits."There is no doubt that this would give an emerging artist a chance to learn about the industry and open many doors in the future," Ferguson said.Bouse said that experience with and interest in animation — perhaps Warner Bros.' most prevalent artistic medium — is probably important.“Someone who’s very interested in being in animation, and who knows that they really would like to dedicate their time to that enterprise should apply,” Bouse said.According to the Warner Bros.’ website, those who complete the program may be eligible for a full-time position at the company after receiving their degrees. The deadline for the application is Monday, March 4, and two letters of recommendations are required, as well as a writing sample and completion of the application.twang@thesamohi.com
