Boys' Basketball loses to Beverly Hills High School, 58-45

On Basketball's senior night, Feb. 7, the Vikings took on Beverly Hills High School's Normans. The game turned out to be a tough loss for Samo, ending the team's four-game winning streak with a score of 58-45.From the start of the game, Beverly took the early lead and kept it through most of the game. Beverly ended up finishing the first quarter with a score of 13-5.The second quarter mirrored the first. The Vikings hustled to catch up to the Normans, but couldn’t quite keep up with the other team's pace as it took the second half by another big lead of 12 points and ended the quarter 29-12.“Our biggest weakness was turnovers and mental breakdown on offense in the first half," Mikahil Brown ('16) said. "They shut us down with their zone and it seemed like we couldn't do anything about it.”At the start of the second half, Samo was able to slightly bounce back, as both teams scored 12 points in the third quarter. However, Samo was still unable to take the lead and the quarter ended 41-29.According to Brown, Samo started gaining back momentum in the fourth quarter. The team was able to bring down the lead four points. The close score didn't last long however, and Beverly's point guard kept scoring and started gaining back the momentum. He kept attacking the rim that concluded in several fouls against him. He was able to help Beverly bring the lead back up to ten. The final score of the game was 58-45.“I know we were better, and I know we're still better," Ray Mancini ('14) said.
