Boys' basketball triumphs over long-time rival Inglewood

Amancai BirabenStaff WriterSamo boys’ basketball continued its season with a victory against Inglewood High School on Jan. 11, finishing with a score of 76-68.Fueled by motivation to beat its long-time rival, the team showed much engagement and effort.“We definitely have a lot of rivalry,” captain Trevis Jackson said. “Since we’re both good teams, at the same level, we have this competitive drive.”The team expected a challenging game, and had practiced several techniques in order to show their best.“We knew to share the ball with each other, to pass a lot. We needed to communicate,” Jackson said.Though Samo is normally behind at the start of the game, the first half was very even between the two teams. For every point one team scored, the other would match that.“We both had an excellent first half,” Coach James Hecht said. “It was very fast paced. We wouldn’t settle for the first shot.”As the season progresses, so does the good energy between the teammates.“We're all competetive,” Jackson said. “We have great chemistry and we bring it to the court.  We love playing together, especially when we win.”abiraben@thesamohi.com
