Boys' soccer dominates in their first pre-season games
Gregory BoehmStaff WriterBoys' varsity soccer won 3-1 against Mira Costa High School in a preseason home game on Dec. 1 at John Adams Middle School.Senior left midfielder and forward Alex Farr started off the game with an early goal that put Samo in the lead 1-0. Mira Costa, however, tied up the game in the minutes before the end of the first half."Although at the beginning of the game our vibe wasn't as great, towards the end we kicked it up and got hyped," senior co-captain Emmanuel Serrano said. "Our team chemistry is not as good as last year's, but it is definitely good so I think that has helped us in our games."Momentum changed in the second half when senior forward Kevin Eyler set up to take a free-kick and caught Mira Costa off guard, sinking the ball with ease into the back of the net. Shortly after, Eyler sent a cross to senior forward Cody Odening, resulting in a third goal for the Samo team."I think the team is going to be a lot better than people think," Coach Serafin Rodriguez said. "A rebuilding year doesn't exist for Samohi soccer."The next preseason game will be away on Thursday, Dec. 8 against Crescenta Valley High School.gboehm@thesamohi.com
