Boys' volleyball loses to El Segundo in three sets
Chelsea BrandweinSports EditorPositive energy from fans flowed through Samo's North Gym on Thursday, March 15 as the boys' volleyball team faced the El Segundo High School Eagles. The cheers and encouraging words from the stands ,however, were not enough to hold off the Eagles. The Vikings were defeated in three sets, although they only trailed by a few points each time.In the final set the teams were neck-and-neck. Samo scored the first point of the set but El Segundo fought back and gained a point for themselves. The two teams tied continuously throughout. At the end of the third set, El Segundo had defeated the Vikings by one point.“It wasn't our best outing,” senior outside hitter Jake Walther said. “We were out of position most of the time. We need to start talking more.”El Segundo is not in Samo's league, however, meaning that this will game will not affect the Vikings' League record. Therefore, while disappointing, the boys will mainly look back on this game as a growing experience.“I felt like we lost to a beatable team and we had a lot of mistakes on our side," junior middle blocker Spencer Cramer said, "but it was a good experience."Boys' volleyball's next game is Tuesday, March 20 at Beverly Hills High School.cbrandwein@thesamohi.com
