Girls' Golf defeated by Torrance High School
By FIONA MORIARTY-MCLAUGHLINThe Samo girls' golf team suffered a loss to Torrance High School in its first match of the season on Sept. 17 at Penmar golf course. The score was 269-191.The girls’ golf team is at a disadvantage against its opponents because of its five-player roster. With only five players, all of their scores count, which hurts the team and lessens its chance of victory if any of the players has a bad day. Torrance and other teams have more players, which gives them a better chance of having good scores. Captain Angelina Hwang ('14) led the Vikings by shooting a seven-over-par 41 on the par 34 course. She was in direct competition with Torrance's top player, Diana Kim, who scored a one-under-par 33.Girls’ golf also doesn’t have the support that other sports enjoy at Samo."Golf is important. I still believe we should get more recognition than we do. We don’t get included in pep rallies or announcements. But this year we’re going to try to get our team noticed," Tiana Elliston ('16) said. The team's next match is against North Torrance High School on Sept. 26 at 2:45 p.m at Penmar golf course.
