Recent victories fuel the fire for Samo baseball

Danny KarelStaff WriterNo one is denying it: Samo boys’ baseball had a rought start. After 11 consecutive losses, the boys seemed determined to reverse the flow of outcomes. However, it seems that the tides have begun to turn. With three wins now under their belts, the boys seem to be gathering momentum as they plunge deeper into the season.“It feels good to finally start playing as a team,” senior Mitchell Eby said. “We’ll see what we can do once we start fully playing to our potential.”The first victory came last week against North Torrance — a close match that ended in a 5-4 victory for the Vikings. After breaking their impressive streak of losses, the revitalized team gathered again to play South Torrance at home, last Monday, April 4th. In a valiant display of will and talent, the Vikings dealt a sound defeat, taking the lead early and finishing 9-2.“We were more there mentally,” senior Brandon Hirschberger said. “We used more team plays like bunting to move people over, things like that.”This Tuesday the team once again finished at home with a win, beating Oak Park 4-1.Over the break the team will be playing six games and aims to keep performing with the same gusto they have displayed in recent weeks.Their full schedule can be found online at www.samohighbaseball.com.dkarel@thesamohi.com
