Samo Girls' Soccer Beats Beverly Hills 4-1
Samo girls' soccer returned to its winning streak with a 4-1 win over Beverly Hills High School on Wednesday, Jan.22. Coming off of its tie with Culver City, the team was prepared to defeat Beverly Hills to solidify its standings in league. It went out and did just that.Samo came out strong in the first half, but despite creating many opportunities, the team was not able to completely penetrate Beverly's defensive line until the second half. Sadie Eller ('14) scored about 15 minutes into the game, forcing Samo to keep up the pressure and raising the team's spirits going into the half-time break."Beverly has always been a rival to us and in the past is usually one of the best games because it is so competitive," Mikala Alatorre ('15) said. "This year I would say that they're not as good as in the past years. Compared to the rest of ocean league they haven't been as competitive or cohesive."Alatorre proved this in the second half, when she, Cheyenne De Los Reyes ('14) and Ariana Lomeli ('15) scored and solidified Samo's lead. The team's goals were met due to the intensity of the team as a whole going into the second half. The defensive line was able to hold off Beverly's offense and move to the midfield, who created most of the plays that made these goals possible. The team came together to prove their dominance.Although the team was not able to keep its shutout because of a goal by one of Beverly's forwards late in the game, Samo had a strong lead to fall back on. The team continues to be undefeated in league and plans on continuing its winning streak to prepare for CIF."As a senior almost halfway done with league I hope to go undefeated in league so that we can take the Ocean League champion title," Noa Gemeiner ('14) said.friosfetchko@thesamohi.com
