Gregory BoehmStaff WriterAfter an overtime, boys' soccer tied Hawthorne High School 0-0 at a home game on Wed., Jan. 25.Though the 0-0 game was described as uneventful, there were times when both teams came very close to scoring. In the early minutes of the game Samo came nearly scored a goal into their own net.Samo started the second half with the same enthusiasm as the first. There were a lot of attempts by Samo, and some that even came inches away from scoring, but none of them made it into the net."Our communication was awful," senior midfielder Andrew Capron said. "We had so many chances and they were giving us so much time but we just weren't communicating in front of the goal."Sophomore forward Omar Sanchez also came very close to scoring after confusing Hawthorne's defensive line with his complex footwork and delivering an on-target shot. However, his shot was blocked by the goalkeeper. The second half came to an end with both teams still tied 0-0. The game went into overtime consisting of two ten-minute halves. Both teams were tired after having already played for an hour and a half, and the game ended as a draw."I think they put too much pressure on themselves," coach Serafin Rodriguez said. "I think we are a lot more skilled than them and a lot more talented. It was just a matter of putting one in. The team came to get a tie. That was their main goal, and we did it."gboehm@thesamohi.com
