Boys’ Varsity soccer beats Morningside 5-2
Boys’ Varsity soccer beat Morningside High School with a score of 5-2 on Jan. 24A few minutes into the game midfielder Jason Bautista (’14) crossed the ball to midfielder Michele Lauto ('14) who then scored. The team started off strong and this consistency continued throughout the game.The next shot was by midfielder and co-captain Omar Sanchez (’14). It was an easy shot on the ground, the Morningside goalie was unable to stop it from entering the goal.Midfielder Danny Leon-Reyes ('14) also scored later in the half, making the score 3-0.Early in the game a Morningside player tried to start an argument with one of Samo’s players but according to Assistant Coach Andy Rock they tell the boys to try avoid altercations and let the referees deal with it.During the second half Morningside made a shot that bounced off the post and into the opposite side of the goal. It was a hard shot for goal keeper and co-captain Eric Stocker to anticipate.A few minutes later Sanchez scored again.A couple minutes after joining the team on the field midfielder Alex Sciupac scored a far goal. This seemed to bring up the team's energy.Morningside scored again and the score became 5-2.“Honestly, if we wanted to we could’ve run up the score a lot more,” according to Head Coach Serafin Rodriguez.
