Spring sports take off: Boys' Volleyball
Chelsea BrandweinSports EditorThe No. 1 Ocean League-ranked Samo boys’ volleyball team is back in action.At the Redondo Pre-Season Invitational on March 3 and 4, their first tournament of the pre-season, the Vikings faced off against tough schools like West Torrance and Bishop Montgomery.While they fell to West Torrance, they championed over Bishop Montgomery, winning their match in three sets.Junior Noah Garber believes this to be a significant feat considering Bishop Montgomery is in Samo’s league.At the Best of the West Tournament on March 10 and March 11 at Poway High School the boys played particularly challenging teams. They lost to Poway in two sets and fell to Dos Pueblos in three. However, Samo beat Long Beach Wilson in three sets. When all was said and done they received seventh place in the bronze division.Overall, the team believes they will go far this year.“I think we have a lot of potential for our season and will definitely be a strong contender for CIF,” senior co-captain, Trevor Pye said.cbrandwein@thesamohi.com
