Vikings beat Redondo Union Sea Hawks by a slim margin
Amancai BirabenStaff WriterBoys' basketball maintained its skill level with practices over break, beating the Redondo Union Sea Hawks 42-41 at their home game on Jan. 4.Within the first seconds that the team had possession of the ball, the boys showed no signs of having had two week respite. Although they are known for starting off slow and then catching up in the end, the boys played the opposite in this game.“We started off really sharp and had good control of the ball, but later on we slowed down a bit and fouled a lot, which worked for Redondo’s advantage,” Coach James Hecht said.Because some players have incurred injuries, Hecht had to play different players than usual.“You have to be able to spread the floor to other players,” Hecht said.At the beginning of the second half, there was much anticipation. In the stands, the frustration of the fans was palpable as they urged the boys to score. On the court, sneakers squeaked and whistles screeched as the players struggled to increase the score. In the end, the Vikings overcame the Sea Hawks by one point.“We’d rather win ugly than lose pretty,” Hecht said, “That’s what we did.”abiraben@thesamohi.com
