ASB holds auditions for students to perform at upcoming pep rally

Sam ReamerStaff Writer For the upcoming March 16 pep rally, the Associated Student Body (ASB) is allowing students to showcase their talents.Auditions for student performers at the pep rally were held in the beginning of March. Students were also selected to perform at the upcoming quad rallies. ASB will not reveal the selected students until the rally.According to ASB Vice President Rebecca Sherouse, a variety of students auditioned.“We saw a unicyclist, dancing, singing, rapping, bands played—we had students from all grades,” Sherouse said.ASB president Hunter Conrad enjoyed the unique talents present at the auditions.“One of my favorite auditions was a beat boxing harmonica man,” Conrad said. “He started off slow and then all of a sudden he combined them and everybody was amazed. It was cool because it was completely unexpected.”ASB cabinet member Valerie Vance also had fun watching the auditions, and was most impressed by the students who stood their ground while performing.“We had this freshman who auditioned and who had such great confidence,” Vance said. “She just walked in and sang to us and we were like ‘wow where did you come from?’ It was really great.”However some students, like sophomore Ben Brown, are worried that the student talent won’t live up to expectations.“I don’t really feel like having students perform is the best way to cheer up the crowd,” Brown said. “I think if you want to cheer up a crowd you need to have real performers rather then rely on kids who might not have great talents.”Sophomore Taylor Block looks at student performances in a different way, instead seeing them as an opportunity to be entertained by her peers.“I think it’s good that the students are able to participate in the rallies. In the past, the pep rallies have all been the same and a lot of students want more selection,” Block said. “Now people can participate and you can see your classmates and maybe find new talents–you can see talents you didn’t know people had. This will make the pep rally a lot better. I’m excited to see what people have to offer.”The rally will take place on Friday, March 16 during second period.sreamer@thesamohi.com
