Disney Orchestra Concert
Samo’s Symphony Orchestra riled up a crowd of over one hundred attendees at Barnum Hall on Oct. 14 to see a concert filled with laughs, fun and nostalgia. The Disney concert carried on the tradition of being the most looked forward to, as well as the most advertised. The concert made the crowd cheer for the quality of the music that was performed, making everybody excited for the next concert. “This performance really made me excited for the concerts to come,” Quinlan Plukas (’19) said, dressed as Flounder from “The Little Mermaid”.Before the concert began a costume contest was held for all students, ending with multiple winners for many different categories. The concert started off with the lower orchestras playing many excerpts from popular movies, and continued to showcase Sinfonia and Intermezzo playing “The Little Mermaid” and “Pirates of the Caribbean”. Philharmonic Orchestra played “Mulan,” “Pocahontas” and “Beauty and the Beast”. As the songs played, a screen above the orchestras showed clips from select movies to show which films the song belonged to. These songs lasted until halfway through the concert, where an intermission was held to let the audience stretch their legs. Samo musicians always strive for the best, and even though the audience loved the performance, the students are critical of their performances and aim to do better.“I think even though we played average, it makes me really excited for the year ahead,” Joey Ricard (’17) said, dressed as Carl Fredricksen from “Up”.Once the intermission ended, Symphony Orchestra played five pieces. They began with Disney Classics, which was a compilation of many old-school Disney favorites, including songs such as “Zip-a-dee-doo-dah” and “It’s a Small World.” They continued with selections from “Frozen,” “Aladdin” and “The Lion King,” earning uproarious applause for beloved songs such as “Circle of Life,” “A Whole New World” and “Let It Go”.“We had very high expectations for this concert and all in all it went just as planned,” Nick Ferris (’19) said, dressed as Olaf from Frozen. For the finale of the concert, the Symphony Orchestra played “Fantasmic,” originally from “Fantasia 2000”. On the final notes of the song, two confetti cannons were shot, leaving the entire audience roaring and cheering.“All in all it was a really entertaining concert to perform in”, Rufus Bordal (’19) said, dressed as the genie from Aladdin.
