Girls Golf Finishes a Successful Season with a Close Win Over West Torrance

On Thursday, Oct. 20, the girls golf team finished their season off strong with a win against West Torrance High School with a final score of 232-230.According to co-captain Emily Goldman (’18), although this was the last game of their season, it wasn’t a league match so the team was less nervous and wanted to do well.“I definitely have practiced a lot more consistently for the past two weeks,” Sarah Ogata (’20) said. “When I am in the matches now, I try to just focus on having fun. If I notice that I am playing bad, then I try to see what I can fix. Otherwise, I just focus on enjoying the game.”Co-captain Julia Engfer (’17) scored 46 shots for nine holes and Goldman, along with Ogata, scored 39 shots for nine holes. According to Sydney Chung (’19), Goldman and Ogata’s low scores really impacted the game.“Two of our best players got a 39 which really made a difference in the outcome,” Chung said. “Everyone did well and it was a really relaxing game.”This game was a great way to end the season for the girls. Not only did two girls score under 40 in a tournament but as a whole, the team played well.“It was amazing,” Ogata said. “Everybody did so well, and I am very happy that we ended that season [with this] win. It was such a close game, but everybody gave it their best and pulled through.”According to Engfer, even though their season is over, the team is going to continue to work hard so that they can further improve for next year.“Our girls are very committed and we are sad it is our last match. But we are going to continue to play and keep our consistency to build an even better team,” Engfer said.
