Homecoming Spirit Week takes off

Homecoming week is quickly approaching, and the festivities are beginning with a pre-game celebration on Samo’s basketball courts on Friday, Oct. 10. This celebration, which serves as an Associated Student Body (ASB) fundraiser, will host AMP Radio music and food trucks for students with prices ranging from $10 to $15. There will also be face painting and Henna tattoos. The event lasts from 3:30 to 6:30 p.m., and family and friends from outside Samo are welcome to join in the festivities.

Spirit Week will last from Monday, Oct. 6 to Friday, Oct. 10. Starting with Jersey Monday, the remaining days of the week will feature Twin Tuesday, Workout Wednesday, Throwback Thursday and Blue and Gold Friday.

To support houses, students who dress up for Spirit Week should stop by the Science Quad everyday at lunch to earn a point for their houses. Whichever house earns the most points during Homecoming week will win the competition, and the house that wins the most competitions over the year will receive a food party, according to ASB President Brian Matusovsky (’15).

"Homecoming week is a time for everyone to get involved and have an opportunity to cheer on our football team in their endeavors, while also participating in fun events like Spirit Week to show support for their houses," Matusovsky said.

Homecoming court winners will be announced at the game on Friday, Oct. 10 and the Homecoming dance will be held in the Greek Theater on Saturday, Oct. 11.

"I see Homecoming as a week long event that every student and faculty member can participate in," Commissioner of Pep Rallies Talon Hadfield (’15) said. "Spirit Week is implemented not only to make Homecoming more entertaining, but unifying as well."
