Samo Theater Company presents "The House of Blue Leaves"
The Samo Theater Company has mounted a production of John Guare’s cynical, sad and comedic play, “The House Of Blue Leaves.”
The play follows zookeeper Artie Shaughnessy, played by Cashel O’Malley (’15), as he tries to fulfill his dreams of becoming a successful songwriter. Through interactions with his insane wife Bananas, played by Sofie Hubbard-Warshafsky (’16), his son Ronnie — a serviceman played by Dylan DeVol (’16) — and his mistress Bunny Flingus, played by Caroline Macou (’16), the audience sees how the avarice of fame impacts relationships in unexpected ways.
According to Macou, the play will appeal to people of all ages.
“This play is one of the funniest I’ve read,” Macou said. “I think high-schoolers will especially love this show because it’s hilarious and captivating.”
According to director Katheryne Soller, the play explores the darker side of human behavior in a way that is both humorous and sad. It will resonate with viewers for its bold exploration of underlying truth.
“The students who are playing these roles have really connected with the parts and they get into the challenge of playing such disturbing characters,” Soller said.
The play will open Friday, Nov. 7 in the Humanities Center at 7 p.m. and will continue on Saturday, Nov. 8, Friday, Nov. 14 and Saturday, Nov. 15.
