Boys lacrosse loses close game to El Segundo

Just before spring break, the boys lacrosse team played against El Segundo High School on Friday, March 18. They walked away on the short end of the stick with a loss of 10-8. “As a team, I thought we possessed the ball really well, we were playing great defense,” attack Kyle Kennedy (’17) said. “We just needed to come out stronger [in the beginning of the game]. We needed to move more and have a faster pace in the beginning.” With one score after another, the Eagles led ahead of the Vikings. In the middle of the game, a player from El Segundo pulled at Samo player midfielder Griffin James’ (’18) stick and he pushed back and was subsequently put into the penalty box. “I think we were demoralized because we are missing a lot of our starters due to injuries but then later in the game we started realized we could play with these guys and started playing better,” player Bradley “Jack” Hall said. The game started slow and with little intensity. It was not until the last five minutes that the players decided to play with force, according to assistant coach James Phelen. “They tightened up some techniques and I believe that they picked up some of the elements of the game to further us,” Phelen said.  “We’ve got a lot to do still but we still have half the games left. We could still bounce back in the league and make a good push when we get back from the break.”
