Boys soccer loses in second match against Torrance

On Nov. 29, Samo suffered a loss in their second match against Torrance High School, 5-0. Although Samo had high hopes for the start of the season and the success of their first few matches, it was easier said than done.At the start of the game both Torrance and Samo played hard, running the ball up and down the field until Torrance scored the first goal. Causing Samo’s spark to dwindle in the competition. However, Samo fought back, making an attempt to score, but lost the ball to Torrance who netted their second goal, taking the lead 2-0.Nearing the end of the first half, midfielder Ryan Lane (’19) ran hard to get the ball back from Torrance, but had a fatal collision, tearing his tibia and fibula and taking him out of the game to the hospital. He was assisted off the field by ambulance and taken to the hospital to have surgery the next day. The operation went smoothly and Lane will be dismissed from the hospital Friday, Dec. 2. Lane should be out for approximately four months, missing the bulk of his first high school season.                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                  Going into the second half, Samo was fired up hoping badly to get a win for Ryan. Unfortunately, Torrance broke the silence of the half with another goal, widening the lead to 3-0. Samo tried repetitively to answer back, but missed on key opportunities.“We had plenty of chances, but you get wins by finishing those chances, not just having them,” midfielder Justin Bautista (’19) said.By the end, Torrance took the game 5-0, allowing Samo an opportunity to look at what they can do better heading into their next match against San Pedro.“We just weren’t playing as we usually do. I think partially due to Ryan’s unfortunate injury, but mainly because we weren’t focused,” midfielder Owen Fitzsimmons (’19) said.
