Boys tennis loses first preseason game against Palisades
On Thursday, Feb. 23, boys tennis lost their first preseason game 3-15 against one of their closest rivals: Pacific Palisades Charter High School. From the start of the meet, Palisades dominated the games, winning or tying most of their matches. However, coach Wilston Poon believes Samo played well considering the team they had to face.“The reason why they won is because they played better than us, but I think we should hang onto the fact we are improving rapidly and the fundamentals of the team are strong so we have to build on that,” Poon said.Josh Segal (’19) is hopeful for the future but knows that the team has a long way of work to become competitive.“We could have been better, to be honest it was more of a matter of focus given that a lot of balls we hit went to the net,” Segal said. “The consistency we need to win games will only come by repetition and practicing more.” Although the team lost some players last year, they’re determined to work hard this season to make up for the loss.“A couple of months of serious practice is what the team needs. I’m not nervous because it has happened before, by working on our less favorable areas like we always do, we as a whole will be fine,” Segal said.As their season continues, the team will face more tough opponents and work toward becoming a stronger team.
