Boys tennis kicks off 2017 season

On Feb. 23, the boys tennis season began with a pre-season home game against Palisades Charter High School. All pre-season games are a test to identify the team’s strengths and weaknesses. The boys tennis team is passing through a rebuilding process this year since they have lost most of their leading players who graduated in 2016. According to coach Wilston Poon, he expects the 2016-2017 season to be tough because of the young team he has. However, the team is working hard to rebuild a new platform for the years to follow.“We are in [the] rebuilding years right now, our best player graduated last year, but I hope we can put a good team with the players we have right now and end the season in a good position,” Poon said.Matthew Morawiec (’17), a veteran and experienced player, sees a cohesive group who will be able to fight for the title.“Players come and go, but as of now we have a pretty strong team with a lot of skilled, good natured people who want to play hard and get better. It’s hard to ask for anything more than that,” Morawiec said. Although the boys tennis team has a lot of new players and a fairly young team, many of them have been playing with each other for years. With this advantage in mind, the team is working toward achieving first in league and possibly a CIF title.
