Girls lacrosse slips by Beverly
On Wednesday, April 13, girls lacrosse won 6-5 against Beverly Hills High School. “There’s a lot more teamwork and a lot of communication which is key in this game especially and I felt like it was all there,” defense and attack Lena Winner (’18) said. “We were all talking and working together as well as being hyped up which helps.” In the first couple minutes, it was obvious that the game was going to be a quick one due to the Normans scoring three goals on Samo. This didn’t faze the Vikings because they bounced back after a timeout and started to bring their A game. “I felt on my side there wasn’t a lot of talking and we were being a little slow [at the beginning], but once we got the hype back up and started talking more we all realized we had to work harder and do our best,” Winner said. Throughout the game, many of the calls were nitpicky and frustrated the Samo coaches. The game lagged on much longer than expected but it was worth it. According to first-year head coach Siobhan Eustace, it was better to start the game slow and end strong than lose momentum throughout the game. “I was surprised about how much time was wasted on the calls; it made the game really long and caught me off guard,” Eustace said. “It’s a physical sport so whenever there’s a lot of overcalls you walk a fine line and have to pick your battles with this sport. There’s definitely going to be times where you need to call but If no one is getting hurt, it should be played out.”The girls will look to continue their Ocean League success at Downey on Friday, April 15.
