Track and field tops Lawndale in Ocean League meet

Samo’s track and field team won overall against Lawndale High School on Wednesday, April 6, in the second Ocean League track meet of the season. With Samo sweeping Lawndale in nearly every event, the team maintained their 2-0 record.Being able to compete in different events can be challenging, and pushes the athletes to practice more. With the girls varsity 1600 meter run finishing times all being less than four seconds apart, the team is trained to run together and work together as they compete. Allowing themselves to paceone another helps them keep an idea of how fast to go, which is especially difficult in a long run like the 1600, according to Ellie Kroskrity (’18).“We’ve been practicing together for a while, which really helps,” Kroskrity said. “Being able to pace each other is vital when competing in long distance.”Ari Dyrek (’18) came in first in the boys varsity pole vault event, vaulting all the way up to 13-06.00.In their second triumph of the season, the track and field team is excited to continue through the season, and will continue to work on their skills.
