Girls lacrosse wins final game of the season against Beverly Hills

On Fri. April 28, the girls lacrosse team played their second league game against Beverly Hills High School, winning the game 10-8 after a hard fought battle. This was the second time these two teams have played each other, and most of the Samo athletes were optimistic regarding the outcome of the game because of their win in the previous game against them.“I knew going into the game that we had a good chance of winning,” Iris Watanabe (’18) said. “The whole team was really ready to bring their A-game for the last game of the season. We also knew that we were capable of winning because of the last game, which just made it that much more fun to end the season with.”Coach Justine Beirne shared similar prospects on the game. She knew that if the team could just work together like they had been all season, they could end the season strong with a fifth win. “All the girls knew that they were totally capable of winning and it really showed in their attitudes going into it,” Beirne said.Though the players thought they had a lot of improvements to make, many of them thought that they ended the season on a high note and were very proud of their accomplishments. “There are always things to work on, but overall I think we have all improved a lot since last year and next year we can really aim for CIF,” Jaelyn Anderson (’19) said.Co-captains Watanabe and Lily Reynaldo (’17) both agreed that the team played a very disorganized game in the first half. Even though they were able to score, there was a lack of  communication, and the other team was able to get through Samo’s defense. The offenders had to do a lot of extra work to make up for it, but in the second half they communicated better and overtook Beverly for the win. “Towards the end of the game it was like we all had an extra boost of energy which really saved us,” Reynaldos said. “There are definitely a lot of things for the team to work on for next season, but it feels really good to end with a win.”
