Girls tennis secures their second place spot in Ocean League against El Segundo

On Oct. 20, the girls tennis team played El Segundo High School and brought in another win for Samo with a final score of 12-6. According to coach Wilston Poon, the team had beat Beverly Hills High School two days prior to their game with El Segundo, securing their standing in second place in Ocean League. “Winning the game against El Segundo allows them to play against Culver City. Last week we beat Beverly 11-7 to secure 2nd place, and then we played El Segundo who was in first place,” Poon said. “We needed to beat them by a score of 12-6 and the girls pulled it out. We have one last match today against Culver, and if we win, we’ll finish first in League.” According to Mina Rivera (‘18), the team had really started to click together. The doubles were in sync, and the singles were in the zone.“Everyone was really putting all their effort into their games, the doubles teams have really improved on their communication on the court and they’ve gotten to a point where playing with the their partner is natural,” Riviera said. “The singles players are also doing really well and when they play their just getting into their own headspace and playing 100%.”Poon agrees and is excited for their next match, which will determine their final League standings.“The team seems to be clicking now and riding into playoffs with confidence,” Poon said. “[I] can't wait for team playoffs in a few weeks.”
