Girls Volleyball Team Continues Home Winning Streak Against Culver City on Senior Night
On Thursday, Oct. 20, the Samo girls volleyball team faced off against Culver City High School for the second time this season at Senior Night. Samo lost their first game against Culver, but redeemed themselves in their second match with a 3-0 win. Each set was close but ended each set with a win and final scores of 25-23, 27-25 and 25-20.Each match was close as both teams continuously gained and lost ground. In the third and final set, Samo defeated Culver, earning a five point lead in the first two minutes.“I thought we played really aggressively which was great for us,” Sato said. “We were motivated the whole match and kept our focus.”Samo managed to continuously pull ahead with great serves from Veronica Johnson (’18) and Mikayla Diamond (’19), kill shots from Grace Garland (’17) and saves and passes from everyone on the court.According to Johnson, although they made a few mistakes, they felt proud of the team’s persistence even when they were behind.“I thought we all played really well,” Johnson said. “Even when the other team started scoring points we all kept pushing just as hard as we have ever, so that was really good.”Jackie Zakharin (’18) agreed with coach Sato’s strategy in the game.“I think that we all played really aggressive and that’s the main reason why we won,” Zakharian said. “We just went all out and put everything into it.”Up next for the team is playoffs. The team is looking forward to continuing their winning streak with their best feet forward.“We’re just gonna keep working on aggressive serving and playing at a system, and being aggressive on defense,” Sato said.
