Samo boy's water polo defeats Torrance High School 21-3

Samo boys’ varsity water polo team defeated Torrance High School 21-3 on Oct. 8, 2014. Samo’s defense performed well, and after solidifying a strong lead, Coach Matt Flanders rotated players frequently for the rest of the game.

Co-captain Efe Toros (’15) scored three goals in the first quarter, and Matt Holt (’16), Jackson Kennedy (’16) and Evan Blaney (’16) each scored one point shortly after.

Samo scored another six goals in the second quarter, keeping them in the lead with a score of 12-1.

With almost half of the team’s players scoring, the Vikings ended victoriously with a final score of 21-3. This marked Samo’s highest scoring game of the season thus far.

“They were not as strong as they usually are, so we were able to play most of our players, which was nice,” Flanders said.

In the coming two weeks, the boys’ varsity water polo team will play against two higher ranked teams. The team will practice with determination and focus in order to ensure success in the upcoming games.

“We plan to use our endurance to out swim Beverly and also use a couple new plays we have been learning,” Co-captain Jared Klann (‘15) said.
