Softball maintains undefeated season against Hawthorne

On Wed. April 19, Softball had their second home league game of the season against Hawthorne High School. They won with a score of 3-1. Coach Kalie Nakao (’11) was very happy with the team’s playing.“More competitions, and the girls stepped up, played a solid seven innings,” Nakao said.  “Very proud of them today.”This game was a makeup that was supposed to be played before spring break, so it made the schedule kind of tight. Team members Kenedee Jamerson (’17) and Amanda Gonzalez (’18) think that although the packed schedule can be difficult, it makes the team better.“Sometimes we’ll be tired, we’ll be sore,” Gonzalez said. “As a team it pushes us and we work better as a team. We have each other’s back.”“[Having games close together] makes us tired, but that’s what softball is about,” Jamerson said. “When you get tired, you gotta be mentally strong and be able to push through anything.”According to Bebeanna Alvarado (’17), the cheers and chants that the team do also really help their performance. “[Chanting] brings us all up,” Alvarado said. “It really makes us excited and aggressive. It kind of intimidates the other team. We’d definitely be dead, on the field and off the field, if we didn’t cheer as much.”The next game is an away game at Culver on Thursday, April 20, and the next home game is against El Segundo on April 25.
