Boys lax loses against El Segundo
On Wed. April 19, Samo boys lacrosse was defeated, 13-9, by El Segundo High School. For the first two quarters of the game the teams were evenly matched. Whenever either of the two teams scored, their opponents followed closely behind. Samo had the better ball control with quick and precise passing. But El Segundo was able to match them with their quick and aggressive pushes into Samo’s defensive third. The first half ended with a score of 5-5.“I think we played well the first quarter, we played aggressively and we were able to make a few shots in, and block some too,” Kyle Atwater (’18) said. “But there was definitely a few plays that we should've won, but didn't.”The start of the second half was tense. Both teams were overtly physical with the other in an attempt to gain the upper hand. Clearly both teams were tired of the constantly shifting lead. However, four minutes into the third quarter El Segundo began to win the fight, and successfully slipped past Samo’s defensive line. At the end of the third the score sat at 10-6.“The entire third quarter we steadily dropped behind,” Connor Bass (’18) said. “El segundo pulled off some really good shots, we placed a lot of our own but we weren't able to find the back of the net.”The final quarter was intense, Samo fought hard to gain the lead on El Segundo and was able to score three brilliantly placed goals. Unfortunately, El Segundo was also able to do so despite the valiant efforts of Samo. Their next game will be on the 28 against Beverly Hills High School.
