Coco movie review
Disney-Pixar’s most recent animated film, “Coco”, came out in theatres on Nov. 22, giving people of all ages a warm and heartfelt movie to watch over their Thanksgiving weekend. “Coco” tells the story of a young Mexican boy named Miguel Rivera, who, despite his family’s generation-old ban on music, dreams of becoming a famous musician like his idol, Ernesto de la Cruz. Desperate to prove himself as a musician, Miguel steals a guitar off of Ernesto de la Cruz’s grave, and suddenly finds himself in the vibrant and stunning Land of the Dead. Along the way, Miguel meets vagabond Hector, and the two journey through the Land of the Dead to discover the truth about Miguel’s ancestors.“Coco” is exceptional for many reasons. The film uses beautiful imagery and soulful hispanic music to share the core ideals of Dia de los Muertos, without overcomplicating the traditional Mexican holiday. Furthermore, the film is funny and engaging, without deterring from the importance and relevance of the messages it is sending to the audience regarding following one’s dreams and family.In addition, “Coco” was remarkable because it shed a new light on the subject of death. Instead of viewing death as a dreary and solemn place, “Coco” portrays it as a colorful and exciting place that is just as brilliant as real life. Above all, the film reflects the idea that one keeps on living after death, as long as they are still remembered by their friends and family in the “real” world. Overall, “Coco” is a fantastic film that teaches many valuable lessons about Dia de los Muertos and the importance of family. It is a truly touching film that will warm the hearts of all of see it, and inspire you to never forget your ancestors.
