Griffin James: The Man, The Myth, The President
- How do you see things at Samo right now?
I see things at Samohi going really well right now. ASB recently underwent a lot of major changes but I think ASB recovered very well and kind of changed really what our organization is about in a short period of time, and now we are more up-running after the first few weeks of school. I see general life on campus as very exciting at the moment because there’s going to be a lot of new things ASB is introducing. A lot of interesting events that have never been seen before are coming in the future that I think the students are going to love.
- How do you view yourself as the President?
I see myself as someone who’s very much for the students, I want the students to be excited to come to school. I know school often times is just stigmatized as something horrible, something that isn't exciting. But as the ASB president I like to have fun, I like to mess around, I like to make jokes and I think school even on Tuesday where you have three tests should still always be an experience that you can laugh about and have fun with.
- What are some of your responsibilities as ASB President
Oh jeez… My responsibility as the ASB president is to speak at a lot of city events, I give a lot of speeches and open up stuff, and I’m also in constant contact with Dr. Shelton, the principal. I have a relationship with the administration I have to uphold, in addition to overseeing all the daily activities and operations of ASB. I supervise ASB to make sure things are always running smoothly, I make sure to check in with every committee and see if there’s anything they need and making sure everyone's in the right position to achieve their own individual success in their role in ASB.
- When you’re not busy being President what might you be doing?
I enjoy meditation, painting, russian street fighting (recreationally but it’s official), I go solo canoeing in level five danger rapids and part of the thrill for me in that is I bring no phone and no form of communication. It’s just me and nature and it’s just where I really get in touch with my wild side.
- What are you looking forward for the rest of the school year as ASB President?
I’m looking forward to all the new events we are doing, and revolutionizing pep rallies with new teacher and student performances. I’m excited to add fun different things like people running out, things that are in your face. In addition, the new events like the Halloween Carnival and overall I just want to instill a culture of pride back into our community because our school is so big and so fantastic and I feel like a lot of people a lot of times aren't showing that side of Santa Monica but I’m ready to show.
