Football is going to be touchdown this year
Hard work, perseverance and focus are just some of the things Samo’s football team shows on the field throughout the season. With only one win this season, Samo is still fighting to represent Samo strongly. “We would constantly practice two to three hours a day to perfect our plays and techniques. It’s just hard work we had to put in to get the outcome we wanted,” running back Cyril Bunayog (’18) said.Coach Ramsey Lambert says that injuries and lack of trust and communication have been contributing factors in their downfall for this season. As the team faces stronger competitors, the game plan stays the same in the mindset that every school they face will be good, but Lambert plans on focusing on their strengths to attack the opponent's weaknesses by going back to the basics.“Every practice and all through summer, our main goal has been to be focused and honed into the fundamentals,” Lambert said.Even though Samo has been going through rough games and taking losses, their previous win over South Torrance High School on Sept. 22 has allowed the team to regain some confidence. “I personally feel that we are doing pretty good giving the circumstances but I also feel that we can do better. There are a lot of things defensively that we need to work on,” Donovan Parks (’20) said.“We were struggling ever since our first game but after our game against South Torrance, we’re all hyped up and ready for whatever comes next,” Bunayog said. Despite the bumps in the road, Samo’s football team has improved and grown immensely as a team since the beginning of the season.“I think that we have improved on becoming more of a family this season since we have had to go through things together,” Parks said. “I think that’s what has made us become more of a family.”
