Boys' Soccer Looking Ahead to a Strong Season
It is once again that time of year when our beloved soccer boys prepare to lace up their cleats, secure their shin guards and take off on the field. Last year’s season may have ended with a loss in the second round of CIF, but this year holds many hopeful possibilities with new varsity players and the incentive to win league, bringing home the winning title and hopefully a remarkable comeback. This year’s captains, Max Nemoy (‘20), Aidan Quinn (‘21) and Carson Rodriguez (‘20) are striving to lead the team to victory this year in hopes of redeeming themselves after last year’s season. Nemoy gave a brief recap of the results of last years varsity soccer season, where it went awry and how he is optimistic that the team will bring in a first place CIF title.“We ended in third place in our league, which is very low for our standards. We were also eliminated in the second round of CIF to the team that eventually made it to the finals. Last season we lost a lot of seniors, and [adjusting to] the new coaching staff was probably our biggest challenge. I expect us to win league,” Nemoy said.Paul Spacey, the varsity teams new coach, holds a strong belief in his team as they dive into the new season. When asked what he anticipates for the outcome of this years results, he gave enthusiastic intel on the team’s abilities and what victories he assumes will come from their skills.“From my perspective having seen certainly the varsity groups so far, I anticipate that it’s going to be a strong season and I expect that for sure we will make playoffs, and from that point I won’t make any predictions, but we’ll see how it goes,” Spacey said. This year holds countless outcomes for the boys’ varsity soccer team. Whether they bring home a CIF winning title is still up to the devotion and perseverance of the players, but fortunately, there are many existing opportunities ahead for the boys to bounce back from the heartbreak of last years defeat.
