Fall sports defined by JV dominance

Traditionally, school sports enthusiasts come and show support to the varsity teams, as those teams are stereotypically seen as the more dominant teams on campus. As the 2019 fall sports season comes to a close, these varsity teams are busy preparing for the much anticipated CIF Championships and League Finals. Looking past the varsity teams, however, we see that many of the junior varsity (JV) teams have truly shown their dominance. If the JV performance has shown us anything, it is that Samo’s sporting future is bright, even as senior athletes conclude their final highschool sports season and prepare to graduate. The JV teams and their many successes this season provide a glimpse at what is to come in the 2020 fall athletics season. Across the board, the JV teams of Samo have brought pride to our school following their multitude of victories. All fall JV sports, such as cross country, volleyball, waterpolo, tennis and golf, had astounding performances, shown in their records.  This season, junior varsity boys and girls cross country sprinted their way to success. Following coach Fischer’s team motto, “Make it happen,” the team successfully brought honor to the program as JV cross country teams swiftly maneuvered through many tough opponents and ended many of their competitions in first place. Samo’s very own junior varsity girls’ volleyball team did nothing less than dominate their season as well. After 12 tough matches against their Ocean League opponents, this team of athletes quickly rose to the top, finishing with an undefeated record. With each pass, set and kill, the girls’ team proceeded to beat Hawthorne and El Segundo and came out on top of their league. Continuing the trend, JV girls’ tennis dominated all season, finishing undefeated. Out of the eight different games they played during the season, the team repeatedly exceeded the other schools in victories. These successes have boosted the confidence of these JV athletes who are preparing to represent Samo sports at the varsity level in upcoming years. The success of all of the JV fall sports teams is not only due to the skill of the athletes themselves, but to those who helped and encouraged them along the way. The victories lie in the dedicated work of the coaches and assistant coaches, the encouragement from the teammates of the players and the aid of the trainers. The time and attention that has been dedicated to Samo’s JV athletes resulted in many wins this year. As the fall season comes to an end and we celebrate their accomplishments, we can look forward to what our JV teams have to offer in the upcoming winter season.
