Girls' basketball loses first league game

Girls’ basketball kicked off their season on Dec.12 against Culver City High School. The girls lost 32-58, but put up a good fight throughout the game. Starters Tsering Wolfe (’21), Iternite Reed (’20), Skyla Adams (’20), Hunter Willis (’19) and Lily Auerbach (’19) looked prepared and confident as they ran through their teammates at the opening of the game.Kelsea Hudson (’19) made the first shot in the beginning of the first quarter, and was on a roll for the rest of the night. WIth three fouls on each of the teams, the first quarter ended with a score of 9-14.The next two quarters consisted of Auerbach and Hudson dominating the shots, and a back and forth of fouls between Samo and Culver. Both schools had supporters in the stands, cheering for each and every player, but also trying to distract their opponents. As the game came to a close at the end of the fourth quarter, the scoreboard read 32-58, unfortunately giving Culver City a win. Despite their being discouraged by their loss, Samo’s girls’ basketball sees this as a learning opportunity and way to better themselves in practice and on the court. “Our whole team is disappointed with how we played, we felt that Culver out hustled us and played harder. The only thing we can do is let go of the loss and just play better next time,” starter Wolfe said. The team is determined to get “revenge” when they face Culver next, and will work hard in practice to get their spunk back.
